Festival 2023

Barenboim-Said-Alumni

Into the Open is an international festival network that presents innovative and creative cultural projects at its core, focusing on classical music. We collaborate with significant and recognized cultural organizations, event organizers, festivals, educational centers, orchestras, and many others. Our aim is to make music accessible to all people and engage in controversial discussions on current societal issues.

Origin

The idea for the festival emerged in the summer of 2020 and gained momentum in the years 2021/22 through partnerships with cultural institutions in various regions of Germany. In January 2023, it was presented for the first time as an independent festival in Berlin under the theme Dreams and proved to be a great success with the audience, press, and participating artists. Following the festival, the organizers received numerous inquiries from freelance artists and renowned institutions (e.g., Staatsoper Berlin, Ensemble Modern) expressing a desire for active participation in the festival program. Building a network of partner organizations internationally is a key objective of Into the Open, and with the support of the European Commission, the project evolves into a European festival network starting in 2024.
